TOLEDO, Ohio — Twelve people were shot, including two who are in critical condition, during a shooting near Toledo’s annual Old West End Festival on Saturday evening, June 6.
According to Deputy Chief Joseph Heffernan, officers responded to reports of gunfire at approximately 5:37 p.m. near the popular community event, which attracts large crowds each year. Police officers were already present in the area when the shooting occurred and immediately responded to the scene.
Preliminary investigations suggest that at least two shooters were involved and may have been firing at each other. Authorities believe the exchange of gunfire resulted in 12 individuals being struck by bullets.
“Officers were quick to respond. They were right there when the shots were coming out,” Deputy Chief Heffernan said.
Victims’ ages reportedly range from 14 to 61 years old. Two people remain in critical condition, while the condition of the remaining victims has not yet been confirmed.
Police are continuing their investigation, and further details are expected as the situation develops.
